Business interruption risk assessment for insurance planning and prevention

Business interruption risk assessment provides information on business interruption which may occur in the event of a catastrophe.  

In contrast to risk engineering, which deals primarily with technical and structural aspects, business interruption risk assessment focuses on economic damage.  The focus here is on catastrophic events, as opposed to business continuity management, which systematically identifies, quantifies and documents individual business-critical events for emergency and crisis management purposes.  

A business interruption assessment is particularly recommended if a company wishes to take out or renew a business interruption insurance policy. This assessment can also be useful when reviewing  existing insurance cover. Business interruption assessment is invaluable if a company goes through a change, e.g. constructing a new plant or extending an existing one.)
